As it's half term my wife and the kids went to visit some friend for a few days taking my car. I have had her (manual) clio. She came back last night so it was back to my car today.
Coming up the slip road on to the M62 I knocked it to sport to get a move on. Did my 20 or so miles then came off the motorway and stopped at some lights they changed, I set off. Didn't boot it just normal driving it didn't change up to 2nd as I had earlier knocked in to sport. With out thinking I went to change gear left foot went for the none existent clutch so stamped on the brakes. Car does an emergency stop, cars behind giving me plenty of horn luckily they stopped.
This my 3rd auto and have never done this before felt a right dick. They probably though I was one of these insurance scammers.
So if a 166 did an emergency stop in front of you today sorry.

I did the the same tonight in the Mustang after using it for the first time in a week or so. However, that wasn't the worst as I got in the 'wrong side' after coming out of the shops hehe

About 5 years ago now, I bought an S Type R - twas my first auto. I was pulling away from some traffic lights and I simply tried to changed gear by slamming my left foot down on the brake and putting the lever into Park. Nearly went through the windscreen and didn't ever do that again. wobble

Exactly how i was taught to drive an auto, left leg tucked behind the right. Uncomfortable, but better then being shunted, 'ooh er'from behind when you you left foot brake.

I know auto's have bigger brake pedals but even so wouldn't you just hit fresh air/carpet.I have never had that problem as I usually rest my left foot on the footrest so would have to lift my foot off the floor to hit the imaginary pedal, by which time I would realise there is no pedal to hit.
