Slightly odd problem. I ordered some stuff from Northern Harvest which was delivered today. I ordered a pumpkin so that the kids and I could have a go at carving a Jack O'Lantern - it was clearly stated on the website as "not for culinary use". I also ordered an Onion Squash - I like making soup, and having tried butternut squash, I thought it would be nice to try another type of squash.

I am, sadly, no expert in vegetables, and I am not sure which is which. Can anyone help? The iPod is in for scale purposes only! I'm kind of leaning towards the vegetable on the right being the pumpkin, but having a crisis of confidence so looking for confirmation.

the one on the right is the pumpkin. Its also possibly the smallest pumpkin Ive ever seen and I really hope you didnt pay more than 50p for it.

You're not wrong there!!! What a puny pumpkin. You might just be able to get a shrunken head out of it.

I don't think I paid very much for it (will have to find the invoice, but I don't recall it being expensive). That said, I asked for a small one because if the kids take it with then on Sunday they won't be able to carry a proper sized one!

Thanks for the confirmation, I'll make the soup from the one on the left then!

You can eat pumpkins too - ie pumpkin pie.
