Evening all... So my car had all round new brake discs and pads at the end of September, I've probably done between 250/300mi since then, but for alot of that time, they've intermittently screeched badly and often make graunchy noises of which I can feel vibration-wise through the pedal when coming to a stop... This worries me...

I don't know under what circumstances they make these noises, but I'm going to try and work this out in the morning, the work was done at a Peugeot main dealer and they've said to bring it in when it's making said noises and they'll have a look.

Any ideas as to what it could be or why they make the noise?

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like lack of cleaning and Greasing.

Could be part of the bedding in process. Can take a few 1000 miles depending on how you drive.

May also be lack of anti-squeel material on back of the pads.

yup, sounds like they scrimped on the copper grease on the back of the pads. take it back and politely ask them to do it properly.

This boils my piss, cooper slip is not exactly expensive and it takes about 10 seconds to apply some to a brake pad and so few garages bother.

Seems to me that more garages employ fitters rather than mechanics.

Take it back and tell them to sort it out. Useless gits

Shouldn't be the case, some ideas, are the items fitted genuine Peugeot, after fitting, initial bedding in wasn't carried out, fitting wasn't correct, vibration might mean disc to hub mating wasn't cleaned to provide a true surfsce.
I'm not up on Peugeot details but now many pads come with prefixed foam anti squeal shims but some only on one pad in each caliper, such that they have to fitted in the correct location.
Some of these foam pads have to be fixed to a cleaned mating surface.
Then there's the sliding sufaces of the calipers, need to work and should be checked on a brake service.
Sorry, I'm not sure I've helped because there are several possibilities.

Brakes LOVE to squeal. OEM pads are carefully engineered NOT to squeal. The problem generally arises from "other brands".

Careful bedding of new pads should reduce/eliminate any tendency to squeal.

Copper slip on the back might help but it shouldn't be needed. Fit the right parts, drive appropriately and it shouldn't happen.

If you only drive on motorways, and have certain aftermarket pads, then yes. Normal conditions should be <300 miles.

From EBC website as an example;
"Redstuff however as a harder compound does take longer to fully bed in to achieve its highest levels of performance (can be up to 1500 miles/2500 Kms urban use) during which time the odd "Chirp" of brake noise may be heard when starting from cold in damp and cold conditions at walking pace speed."

Just got back from the dealers, service bloke says the pads have become glazed, whatever that means, google-ing it now... Says they can book it in next week to sort or just leave it. Horrid noise and vibrations though, stopped at a red light in town earlier and the rumbling/graunching was very loud, everyone on the high street turned to look...

No way you should be feeling anything through the pedal with new brakes, get it checked by another garage

I glazed my pads on my Honda, this was due to a lot of very heavy braking, this seemed to coincide with a lot of PH 'hoons' wink

I replaced them and due to one thing or another, I haven't done so many hoons this year... oddly enough the pads have been good as gold scratchchin

Aaah, Mr Disturbedinthehead! wavey

You glazed your pads doing exactly the opposite of me though, I can't see why mine should have glazed in such a short period of time when 80%+ of its usage since has been on motorways where I rarely, if ever use the brakes... confused
