hi guys, Im looking to buy a e46 m3 from a dealer (not bmw) that has full bmw history up to 83k but it is now due an inspection 1 which dealer will carry out before full purchase. should I ask for the book to be stamped after inspection OR not get the book stamped and get the same inspection done by BMW the next year so all stamps are consistently BMW.
what do you think? does it matter? or will it help resale value.

thanks

Why get the same inspection done twice ? That would look weird to me. You'd have done a load of miles towards the next one, so it would be the wrong service and a also gap that would raise questions.

If I understood the question properly...

I'd have the dealer reduce the price accordingly and have the inspection done yourself at BMW.

Inspection 1 at bmw is £8oo. absolute joke.
Do you think too many specialist stamps put people off or what specialists do you use.

If its just your usual 2nd hand car dealer that you are buying the car from i personally wouldnt want them to do the service as they will probably just give the car a quick once over and fill it full of cheap oil.Inspection 1 also includes valve clearance check which they certainly wont bother with!

I would try to get them to reduce the price and tell them you will service the car yourself.Mine is due in around 1500 miles and i have been quoted £465 by my local bmw indy which includes valve clearences check and that is around half what the main dealer will charge.

Dont worry too much about main dealer stamps, when you come to sell most people in the know would probably rather see stamps from a reputable indy anyway and you will save yourself some cash along the way.

good advice from nedz. i'd get them to reduce the price and tell them not to service it, or say you aren't buying. end of. again, a reputable independant specialist is every bit as good as a dealer IMO.

personally, i'd only have it 1 way - get an indy or dealer to service it.
