Does MOT mileage accuracy matter?
Discussion
I took my car to be MOT-ed earlier this week and noticed that the garage had recorded the wrong mileage on my MOT certificate - 74,000 instead of 7,400. Being a relatively rare car, I wanted to make sure all my paperwork is straight so I queried it. The garage man said it didn't matter however after a bit of umming and ahhing, he agreed that if I bring the MOT certificate back next week (I needed it for my car tax), he'll "try and sort it out".
So, out of curiosity, I'm just wondering if it matters whether the mileage on the MOT certificate is that important - for example would there be problems at the next MOT because the car had suddenly jumped back a whole lot of miles?

He's really got to change it for you - and within 7 days.
Otherwise it will look very suspicious when you come to sell the car at some point. ..... "rare low mileage exmple" ...... but then the MOT certs (and online checks) does not confirm this, as it's lost 68k miles somewhere.
It's easy to explain - but how many buyers would believe you.

I've recently gone through this hassle.
My MOT mileage was 80,000km out but I didn't notice straight away. I had taken it to an Impreza specialist who have the MOT test done elsewhere. Anyway the MOT station got all arsey about it saying they would rectify it next year which is obviously no good as it would appear clocked to anybody doing an online MOT history check. He said the best he could do was amend by hand and sign. I ended up going to VOSA and it took about 3 months to get it all sorted and that was mainly due to the original garage stating my mileage on the invoice and that the mileage was not in line with last 4 years history of my ownership. I thought VOSA had told me the garage could amend up to 14 days.
Don't delay, take it back.
