Just bought a new laptop and forgot that I need a serial port for my Origin B2 updates.

I'll probably go for the Ixos adaptor but some of the reviews of such devices are not too good.

Anyone here use one that works??

Would highly recommend the Acer Aspire 1502.

£25 at www.maplin.co.uk (ZP43W). Don't use it myself mind.

Do you have a Parrel port (printer) on there, thats a serial bus as well so maybe a convertor for that would be cheaper? Roughly £5 for a connector.

Thanks for the Maplin part I forgot to check with those guys, was looking at ebuyer.

I would guess a serial to parallel adaptor would be expensive. Parallel ports recieve data on an 8bit wide bus, whereas serial devices stream data on a single Rx or Tx connection. It would need a box of tricks to convert.

aha, I'm meant to know that - I did a whole module at Uni on that, never really sunk in tho.
