Are there any Lucas injector alternatives ?
Discussion
Hello,
I'm not 100% sure this is the right TVR forum but I'll give it a go anyway. I'm building a Westfield with a 4.2 Range Rover engine and need to source some higher flowing injectors. I'm using a modified hotwire manifold and fuel rail so ideally I'm looking for some 24lb (or so) injectors that will fit straight in - high impedence too please.
I've seen plenty of Bosch style injectors (like these: http://www.fiveomotorsport.com/domestic-high-perfo... that could be made to fit but they don't appear to be a straight swap due to the o-rings and retaining clip groove being in slightly different places.
I'm sure (hope) some TVR owners must have found some.
thanks
Mike

I swapped my lucas originals for bosch alternatives to do just what your trying to achieve, and really regretted it to be honest.I lost a huge amount of top end horsepower,as did a friend who also did exactly the same swap.If you havent uprated your fuel pressure yet then i would definately consider it as a viable alternative to different injectors. The Lucas originals will take 3.0bar very reliably i found, and this is enough to get you 340ish bhp.The bosch injectors did give ever so slightly better bottom end torque though, which helps a little if you have a lary cam,but i found the top end loss far more significant.
Webber make a nice remote 3.0bar pressure regulator, but i'm sure a bit of research might find alternatives. The end of rail regulator was made for a few different applications and ive often wondered if one of them would fit the bill, perhaps with vac pipe disconnected?

OK, my head hurts now.
I've got some Lucas injectors that I had cleaned a few years ago but never got them out of the wrapping. It turns out they replaced one totally. But it's not the same !!!! So that leaves me with 7 matching, cleaned injectors and one brand new that has a different number.
I think it's best for me to start from scratch then. The only requirements are that they fit in a hotwire manifold with the standard fuel rail.
I'm going to try to digest that LS injector info. I'm sure I've seen people have to 'file' that style down a little to get them to seat correctly - I mean take a little of the width at the lower end just above the bottom o-ring.
I'll probably be back later.
thanks
