Trouble with a near neighbour using the street as a free garage for his business.
IIRC vehicles over 1.5 tonnes have to display lights when parked at night. Can anyone point me to the relevent statute?

Never seen any references to this

a law such as this would mean some big cars and vans/trucks being lit up like christmas trees all alond the street.

Must admit, I never knew that.

My car doesn't even have parking lights, if trafpol in Chester enforced this, ½ the vans and trucks in the city would be stung by it.

Does he run his business from a private dwelling? If so, change of use permission is required from local authority.

Isn't this a case of the law being behind the times (again ): surely a majority of medium to large cars today weigh over 1.5 tonnes.

Its above 1525kg which have to show lights at night in a street lamped 30 limit. Anything parked outside a lit 30mph area has to show lights if it is parked on a road or verge.

The best way to deal with this is to go to the local council if he is running a business from home and tell them.
He may well not have planning permission to do so and they can enforce him to stop doing it.
