If it's not too far from home you could still drive it with no clutch.

Engine off, 2nd gear, turn the key and give it a little throttle.

You can change gear still too, but takes a little practice to get right.
At a certain point in the rev range the gear speed will match engine speed and the lever will slot in.

You might not want to risk crunching the gears too much if you've not tried it before though.

Sorry, I can't advise on how hard it is to fit a cable to a Wedge, never done it.

Hi mate.. Im only in brockley but havent got any form of transport at mo.. Has the cable snapped in half or at one end as years ago i had to re-pull a clutch cable as it had snapped at clutch end..managed to get home but the bitting point was a bit dodgey..If its snapped in half you may have a pedal box which fords had and if thats gone then re-fitting a new cable wont last long..You shoudnt have a problem getting the cable..If your stuck for transport i might be able to help mon or tues depending when i get mine back...zig

if you have the part then the breakdown service will replace it for you. Or that's how it used to be

If it's Cortina type fittings, should be pretty easy to replace even if you've never done one before....like putting a new brake cable on a pushbike. smile

This happened to me three times before I got fed up and had it a hydraulic conversion. Then the pedal occassionally got stuck and the slave cylinder emptied itself one day. So maybe not such a good move.

I seem to remember the cable was from a granada 2.3, it can be fixed at the roadside (I carried a spare) but you'll have to be fit to contort yourself up into the footwell where it connects to the pedal. Thats's where mine always used to snap, at the pedal end.

I always have one or two of these little connectors(and small screwdriver)in my cars...great for joining most cables in an emergency.

Mine is a 2.8, same cable I would have thought. Remember - buy two and keep one in the boot.

Have you tried Richard Thorpe at RT Racing? He's usually a good source of wedge spares. Alternatively, have you come across the 'alternative spares list'? Many years ago, before the internet was invented, some enthusiastic owners compiled a list of where all the borrowed parts come from, mostly ford and BL. Not as useful as it used to be as most of the donor cars are long dead, but email me if you like and I'll dig it out and send you a copy.

its a capri cable, 2.8...so easy to source....in case your pedal box may have been modified and if you have time you can sent the old remainings to speedycables and they will fabricate you one.

usually they do snap on the fixing point at the pedlbox, direct behind the eylet.

always buy 2 or better 3.
