Thanks for the replies, even un-powered these speakers just look great.
Was reccomended a cyrus II amp by the seller but seem to be rare and pricey.
The low budget must remain however tempting so might get an older Rotel amp for now. Can always upgrade later.

Hi Wiz ~ I'd put the bare minimum of your budget into cables and plugs tbh. Twin mains from any decent diy or electrical store is fine and there's no need for plugs either.
If you can find an listen to a well looked after Pioneer A400 amp and Technics SL-PG520A or 620A CD player I think you'll be very happy. The 'A' bit on the end of the Technics model number shows its got a Philips swing arm laser mech inside, which is a good thing. The SL-PG 277A and 200A were earlier earlier versions and also quality machine. The Amp and CD both performed way way above their price points when new and amp/cd tech has moved on very little since they were new. IMHO of course.

Hey Wiz. It depends how far you want to go with the HI Fi Bug. Most of the High end Hi Fi shops are selling second hand kit, not sure where you are based but I know that Audio Consultants in Reading have some very good used stuff but still pricey.
The cables and power stuff does make a difference when you get to high end and the tolerances are miniscule. Crackies suggestions are good and for that equipment, smelted silver power leads won't make a blind bit of difference.
I have heard very good stuff about Cambridge Audio (Richer Sounds) and Arcam and Rotel. All of which punch above their price point. I would suggest spending a little bit on interconnects and speaker cables. They will make a difference.

I'm a big fan of Rotel too. My CD player used to be a Rotel RCD-965BX LE Discrete used as a mech, along with a Cambridge DacMagic 2. I'd tried a CD63MkII/DacMagic combination, and also the Myryad MC100. The UK modified Rotel and the DacMagic punched far above their price point, and sounded very similar to the MC100. The MC100's odd manner of operation, unreliability and inability to play slightly scuffed discs meant it went back to Richer's. The 965BX would play a flattened down ashtray.
Amplification was a Myryad MI120, speakers were modified KEF Coda 9.
Currently I have a Rotel RCD-02 and Rotel RA-01 linked to a pair of M&S 686 - it was a system I acquired from a family member, and it performs well. The amp is perhaps the weak link, the system sounds very good when the amp is swapped for the Myryad.

All seems to work nicely and cost less than an entry level system from RS
Very happy.
Would still like a Cyrus amp though, out of interest.
Like the player - very solid feel!
