Memory Card Class

Excuse my ignorance. I have recently got a Panasonic TZ10 and have a class 2 memory card. I have heard that for decent video quality I need a class 6 or above. Is this right? What should I get and are Eye-Fi cards worth considering?

Class 6 is three times faster at storing info than class 2. Video needs fast cards as (obviously) they do it in real time.

SanDisk are the market leader in cards and produce very fast cards. As with everything, good kit costs!

All my cards are SanDisk. Never, ever, had a problem with them and carried some valuable images on them.

I have been using Transcend class 6 cards for about a year now, not had a problem with them.

Just bought two more 16Gb class 10 from Flebay for £17.91 each.

Rule one of digital photography: Buy the best possible memory card, as the cheap ones often fail and leave you with no photos...

...and if "the best camera in the world is the one you have with you" is true, the worst camera is the one the one with the dodgy card, because you saved a few quid, but get no photos at all.

Just find them more trouble then there worth. In terms of setup times, customer feedback on reliability and ease of use.

Sandisk 16GB Class 6 for three times the price failed, Transcend 16GB Class 10 for 1/3 of the price of Sandisk works fine, all previous Transcends worked fine for years too... Go figure.
There really are other brands than Sandisk, I'm not talking some chinese no-names from Ebay but Sandisk are overpriced IMHO.

Lifetime warranty what? How is that going to get me my pictures back?

Also other memory card makers also give you warranty, you know?

theres plenty of image recovery utilities out there. never had a problem with a stack of sandisk cards.

Eye-fi depends on maintaining wi-fi connection. Flakey and windows (XP) drops an inactive connection. Epic fail....

Secondly RAW file download from a D300s was about 9 seconds. Useless! Jpeg is quicker of course but I wanted to check image without Jpeg processing.

Anyway a more powerful USB/phone technology universal wi-fi device can be built for less than £100 - quicker and cheaper and totally independent of a home network.

I bought a couple of cards last year from the link below. A great price, so far they have been fine. They were also fully tested by National Geographic.

I think it's better to have a number of smaller capacity cards rather than one large. If one should fail, then you haven't lost so much.
