My digidash seems to have a mind of it's own sometimes. I gather that it calculates it's gear and speed from revs? The gearing is so close with the R1 engine and it revs so quick that I seem to be able to confuse the dash very easily. Today I've had 2 probs with it, half the time it hasn't got a clue what gear I'm in and the speedo gets confused and starts throwing random numbers up! I've noticed if I let off the loud pedal it catches up but that's no good is it?!

Anyone else had this??

If you're getting random numbers from the speedo, it's likely that you haven't got a relable signal from your pickup. Assuming you have a magnetic pickup on the prop or similar, make sure it'd adjusted to be close enough. Also, see whether the switch has slid up the plastic casing, so it's not at the bottom - mine did exactly this, i.e. the unit was very close to the spinning magnet on the prop, but the sensor had slid up a little inside the case. Pushing the wire down and a bit of heat-shrink solved that one.

Make sure the sensor is not too close either, that can certainly mess them up, ask me how I know.

The "ask me how I know" expresssion usually indicates that the person using it has direct experience of the problem being discussed. It certainly does in this case. The actual answer that you needed has already been given, that is, to check the distance of the sensor from whatever it is reading, and to make sure it is neither too far way nor too close. The actual required distance, I expect, varies depending on circumstances. Full details on the ETB website, IIRC.

Pardon the pun...but I picked up on your comment re lifting off and it sorts itself out. What plugs are you using?

I ask, as if they aren't resistor plugs, this can play hovoc with electronic kit in a car. The other possibility, what type of HT leads have you got? Long, long time ago now, but I was asked to look at a TVR Tuscan race car because the Stack tacho kept getting confused. Turned out ot be caused by the car having a sold copper king lead.

Try asking ETB as well. I've not had all that much to do with them to date, but so far, they have been more than helpful.

if your pickup is at the engine end is your engine moving under acceleration/lift off causing it to not pickup on the magnets all the time ?

If you have the magnet(s) on the prop I would check prop bolts b4 any further running - you may have a bigger issue than speedo accuracy!!!

All good suggestions... I need to speak to the builder to find out where the pick up is!
