Removing a smoothed bodykit...
Discussion
Just bought myself an Austin mini van. Which, mechanically is exactly where I want it to be already, but the previous owner has put a bodykit on it, which isn't where I want to be. It's been put on, and smoothed with no seems with various layers of fibreglass and filler. So i'm just wondering what's going to be the best technique for removing this. I'll have to find out from the guy if it's been pop riveted into place then smoothed or whatever. And with a fine touch, and plenty of sanding, will I be able to get the body looking original again? I KNOW it's a very solid shell.
Sounds like you need to get the angle grinder, hammer & chisel out!
Seriously, I think you'd need to carefully grind the approximate union of the kit to the car, taking off the filler until you reach the fibreglass & panelwork, then keep going around the car. Once you've ground away a small section, it'll become more obvious how its fitted. There is every chance it wont be re-useable though.
