Fitting a battery isolator
Discussion
Has anyone fitted an FIA spec battery isolator?
I am still planning (hoping) to enter the TVRCC Sprint. (Maybe not the 2011 season given that the engine is still in bits and Xmas is looming!)
From information gleaned so far the isolator is expected to be drivers side just below the windscreen. Which since its not LHD would mean running cables across the firewall to the switch and back to the nearside feed that goes through the bulkhead under the expansion tank.
All of which sounds very undesirable and maybe more trouble than its worth.

I am looking at this as I am also expecting to be competing my Cerb next year. As I am going to be in the roadgoing class there is no requirement to have a battery isolator so I shall just mark up the standard ignition off switch. I am never sure whether the kill switch is a good idea as it seems to be counter productive to have a a long un fused cable criss crossing the front of the car. I did this to my Triumph as it wasnt possible to get to the ignition switch when strapped in but the cable run was relatively short on that.

No need for an FIA isolator if your car is road legal. Scrutineers last season seemed happy with a label pointing out the ignition off button. I printed up and laminated a label that fits on the clock with bluetack.
The other labeling I was asked for at one sprint was something to indicate to marshals how to open the door, a laminated label taped to the car by where a normal door handle would be, works fine there.

Thanks guys. Not sure what I read to make me think it needed an isolator for sprinting.
However, part of the problems I had at the Oulton Park trackday was the cables on the starter solenoid coming adrift and the battery shorting. A frantic few moments whilst the battery was disconnected!
That got me thinking about an isolator in case it happened again. But I reckon all those extra cables and connections would just provide more places at which similar could happen.
So I'll stop trying to find other things to do and get back to sorting the engine
