oh no ! the same question asked again

I need some help to id the trackrod ends for my 350i 1987 (D reg)
Currently being converted to power steering using a rack from a 1986/7 (C reg) 350i a sad car being broken up north about 7 years ago. Anybody want a manual rack FOC ?
The power rack has ford stamped on it. (Hopefully cortina as thats what I have ordered)

The next bit i need is the steering column bush that fits in the bulk head, I haven't a clue about this ?

thanks

I have used this supplier for both the track rod ends and lower ball joints, no problems.

And Im sure http://www.tvrcarparts.com/pages/parts.asp?vehicle... have the bulkhead bush you need.

Also, I spoke to Ihouston ( http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/profile.asp?mem... ) earlier this month, and he has fitted a bearing to his that he sourced from either RS spares or maplins, cant remember which, but its a spherical bearing in a split housing snd should last for ever!!

RS do supply those bearings but you'd find one cheaper at a bearing suppliers. Think mine was about £8. I had to make a brass sleeve though, 'cos the column was 14mm OD which is not a preferred size for ball-bearings ID, so I used a 17mm ID - this is on the SD1 column.

Get the type with dual rubber seals, it'll keep the grease in longer.

Thanks for the quick responce

great i have order the right trackrods.

The steering bush currently is a bit of metal with a bit of plastic, i think bush is over describing it.

Off to the local motor factors to advise that its from a SDi . I would like to up grade but time is pressing, i 've only been on this motor for 10 plus years (soon to be back on the road)

thanks again

I found those to be slightly shorter than the ones fitted to the racer, plus they don't have the spanner fitting, that help when getting them un-done.

So depends what ones are on your car currently.

You might get one from Rimmers, doubt a motor factors would have one.

I would definately fit the bearing instead of the bush - really does not take long and makes a massive difference + you will not need to do it again I feel once done - I fitted 2 of the plastic type bushes they are useless before upgrading to the bearing.

OK with the trackrod ends, ordered cortina, got £4.90 each inc vat

Steering bush, wedg1e right again ....went charging down there...no chance at motor factors but they couldn't be more helpful, which is always something.

Ended up down the route you have all perscibed and ordered the bearing bush from RS...well the one fingered bandit has for me and he is going to organize the sleeve.( i have offered tracey as payment)

As for the wedge pages... i always forget, will look next time phil, honest.

Here's mine, had to make an adapter plate for the bearing as the hole in the bulkhead was larger than the elliptical retainer plate and the bolt holes were nowhere near. The plate covers the hole, is secured by the original bolt holes and the elliptical plate is rotated about 30 degrees for new bolt holes to be drilled. Bit of sealant and Robert's your maternal parent's sibling biggrin
