Dropping colours from a photograph

Is there any easy way to drop all the colours, bar one from a photograph on a standard OSX install software? (Or even Imagemagick or GIMP)

I have a photograph of my car, and just looking for an easy way to kill all the colours around it, make them black and white and just keep the red.

Special circumstances. Picture was taken in a tunnel, the lighting is dreadful, and the colour cast is just horrid.

And the picture will never see light of day
