X-Trail 2.2 Di engine problems
Discussion
Hi. Our 2.2 Di (note not the later Dci) X-Trail is giving the impression that it's running out of fuel when it isn't - the car will lose power, stall, sometimes die competely, doesn't pull properly and generally isn't right. We had the fuel filters changed a while ago and this seemed to have cured the problem, the car ran fine for about 500 miles and then it seemed to not be pulling cleanly again. Within a day or so it's gone back to being as bad as ever. To me it's as if something is blocking up the fuel supply. Any ideas ? Car has 90K on the clock and has been serviced regularly since we bought it three years / 45K ago.
You need to eliminate your fuel supply, Give the engine a separate fuel supply from a can I suggest you get a cheap online filter to avoid any dirt going in. Run the engine on this supply at reasonably high revs. If the holding back problem has gone you know the answer. Clean tank and all fuel lines. The thing is check lift pump in tank is working. Not all diesels have one but most do. Good luck
