New Battery - Bosch 12V HSB075 ok ?

Gents, I need a new battery & like the Bosch range at Halfords. I see our 5ltr cars are fitted with a 072 type but I cannot find a 072 Bosch equivalent.

Will a 075 be ok ? (ie Bosch 12V HSB075) Dimension look spot on.

Do you think Halfords will fit it for £4.99 ??

OK ... anyone got a serious answer to the 075 battery being suitable rather than a 072 please ?

I'm assuming its just a coding thing & will be fine as the batteries attributes look good (ie size, starting amps 600, etc)

IIRC the 075 is less powerful(Ah) than the 072? It is also has a slighlty different casing, the posts being flush on the 075. If the battery box is like the one in my Chim it would be more awkward to fit than an 072.

Not saying it won't/can't fit but any decent battery supplier should be able to supply an 072 - I would not worry too much about the make.

No battery expert, and it was a while ago, but as I remember it isn't the Ah you need to worry about. It's got to turn over that engine from cold. Look at the CCA, 600+ at least.

It is if your car does not start first time because there is something wrong with it, it is the capacity(Ah) of the battery that matters then. The cranking figure is the most you could expect to get out of it in a short burst.

The cranking figures quoted on different batteries can only compared if measured the same way, not all manufacturers measure them the same way.

I use a type 096 which fits the battery box very snugly, if you get a reverse type the terminals are at the right sides. Just lay a strap in the box so that you can pull the battery out if needed, my Varta ones have been good for over 5 years now (so good on the Chim I put one on the LR)

Ditto Very tight fit, but just bought this and my starter has never spun so fast

To conclude, I fitted a 072 last night & all is well even though its a Halfords rather than a Bosch. The 075 was a little small.

My old battery was 5 years old & dry. I could have topped-up but once its out, its not going back !

Not to worry; this is an old write-up but the Halfords Batteries came out well and I'm pretty sure their warranties are a 'no quibble' affair.

The best battery I've come across is the Exide thats been in the Griff for the last three and a half years; cranks harder than the equivalent Bosch Silver before it.
