Hello people.
First post here so go easy.
I went to look at a 4ltr Chimaera today with front end damage.
The damage is to the front offside and bumper. Fibergalss only from what i could see. The rad is still in one piece and in place so it wasnt to hard a bang. The body work and re-spray dont concern me.
It needs the head light and drivers mirror.
Started no problem from cold but untill it warmed if you touched the throttle it almost died then caught.
Once warm it seemed OK (might be solved with a service and its just at 40000 miles.)
It had an oil leak from behind the drives side bank that was leaking on to the exhaust manifold. I would think it was the rocker cover gasket but wanted to ask if there was anything else around that area that could cause a leak. This wasnt a small leak it kept smoking all the time so there was a constant oil supply to the manifold and its hard to see back there. Also when I stopped the engine you could hear a sound like somthing boiling or bubbling.
I know this sounds like a dog but the price seems right and for a few grand I could have a decent motor (or could I) ???
Any advice would be welcome.
Cheers
Dave

AS well as the Cooling sytems making the noises,When you turn the ignition on the fuel pump primes which makes a gurgling noise which is normall, also you can get pressure in the Petrol tank which can also make a Gurgling sound.
Have you got a local mechanic that can give it the once over??

I took mine into a TVR dealer to have a leak sorted.
I told them I thought it was either Crankshaft seals, or Sump gasket.
They say rocker cover gaskets were leaking and need fixing (2 hours labour).
Around £400 later I get the car home and it is leaking again
Took it back up to them & they tightened up the sump bolts but could find nothing wrong.
I get it home and it is leaking again.
Take it back up to them a third time and look under the car myself.
I couldn't see much but assumed that the it was at the back of the sump was where it was leaking from
The Service guy tells me that it was about an hour and a half's labour to fix, and that all the Rover V8's leak a bit.
He said I could have it done but 6 months again it could be laking
I get it home and it is still leaking
I'm Just deciding whether to take it back to them to get it fixed and see if I can get some kind of discount out of them or go to someone like Austec instead.
The annoying thing is I said it was the Sump gasket all along, I I didn't even have the luxury of getting under the car to see where it was coming from.
