I struggling with a bit of a dilemma. I've got a budget of £5k for a weekend toy and I was happy with my decision to go for an RX7, until today..... I've been having second thoughts and am now considering a 944, either S2 or Turbo (although I know I'm struggling for a decent one at £5k)

The reasons for the Porsche are that I'm not sure if I can live with the low MPG, or the feeling of rotary impending doom! That said though I wouldn't get an RX7 without it having proof of a rebuild.

Would a 944 be exciting enough I think is the biggest problem?.... I wish I could just make a decision and stick with it! In the last 3 months I've flitted between E36 M3, Sapphire Cosworth, S2000 and now RX7/944.

So what would you do?

(forgot to log the OH out before)

Any particular reason why? I know I'm expecting the RX7 to be less of an event but to have alot more performance...

I'm hoping to try both in the next couple of weeks, I think it's the only way I'll be happy with the decision.

See, now, I said 944 too, oh wise men.

Until I found out that he might not be able to insure it so I can drive it too.

In no way am I having a 944 sitting on my drive that I can't drive! nono

So now, knowledge-able ones, you have to tell him RX7, in a way that he believes, so that I don't cry bitter, bitter tears.

Do it.

If it's a weekend toy why do you care about MPG?

RX-7 ftw, especially for 5k you won't get a decent 944. You will have to look hard for an un-chavved RX-7 but it will be worth it and IMO the Rex is more of an event, faster and better looking

S2 or a turbo without a doubt (saying that never driven an RX7paperbag) easily within budget just hunt around for a good one, oh and budget for a belt change asap for piece of mind.

RX7 all the way smile
Or, alternatively, have you tried driving any of your potential choices?
I thought I wanted a 944S2 until I tried an RX7 smile

MPG isn't the biggest concern (as you say it's a toy) more the RX7s overall ability to destroy my wallet!

That's the plan, try both.

Get one with a recent rebuild, most will have a guarantee anyway. Your main problem will be finding a good standard one.

Having driven a 944 I found the Rex far more special. If it was your only car then 944 all the way but for a toy there is no comparison.

Both great cars.

It'll be a whole lot easier to find a nice original 944 than it will an RX7. The poor old RX7 got set upon by the max power brigade big time frown

S2000

But of the two i would say RX7.

Miles faster than the 944 and IMO better looking. If you are worried about RX7 repair bills remember that chewed up Porsche engines/gearboxes aren't exactly cheap! Rotary MPG is pretty offensive though, i would do a spreadsheet to cvompare the costs over a year.

You'd rather have an S2000 than an RX7?! confused
