RRC Stereo Upgrade
Discussion
Hi guys.
The LSE still runs the original Clarion (I think) stereo head unit it originally came with. The sound quality through the speakers is good and the disc changers is in perfect order as well.
The problem is thath the sound control know has always been a little bit less than keen and has now reached the point of being completely effing useless. Intead of turning volume down it'll go up in logarithmic degrees. As you can imagine this is slightly annoying.
This along with the reson I've not been able to hook up my phone to play MP3's (casette conversions are a joke) mean I 'm desperately in need of a new headunit.
Help!
I don't want something that looks too new and out of place against the plastics of the dash, and I need something that can be removed (no tints in London). Is there anyone out there who can recommend anything. I can't imagine all classic's are still running with original audio.
I've seen the Parrot RK8400 which looks like it might possibly do the job. Has anyone out there any experience of them/anything else?
Cheers guys.

Is it worth getting it repaired/serviced, and perhaps iPod/Mp3/iPhone upgrade done?
That way you keep something that is fitting with the period of the car, but has 2010 technology.

ETA: I haven't used this chap's services yet, but do intend to get the iPod conversion done to my RR's Alpine head unit. But he gets very positive reviews from various LR forums.

What about something from Becker?
They now don't supply the uk at all and prices have increased but they are good units and you can find some on ebay.
Grand Prix and GP pro for stereo with or without bluetooth.
Indianapolis (pro) for nav as well.
Also traffic pro some of which were supplied to some aspect of Land Rover as they are branded sometimes.
I put an Indianapolis in my 944 and it looks just right - not new and flashy - but works well.
You can get an ipod connector wire for them.

I actually went with the Parrot (picked up sometime last week - fited yesterday). I'll be honest with you that I'm pleasently surprised in the way it fits in the car. The matt blacks match the car and the default screen (although not overpowering which I was concerned about) seems to be well placed against the wood trim.
The beckers were definately an option, but I felt that for the money I could just get a replacement AND get the OH reconditioned and aux fed (as per above), plus now I have a pretty awesome handsfree system, 6 feeds into the headunit, and bluetooth priority on GPS directions (should I ever bother).
Anyway thanks for the advice guys, and I'd definately recommend the Parrot.
