Long story, i went out on sat morning and came back a few hours later with an MX5. Probably made all the mistakes when buying a car, had done no research, had no ideas what to look out for etc.
Anyway now that I have got it, I need to get a few bits done to it, namely the clutch changed. Just looking for some advice on how much a clutch costs, and rough idea of costs to get it replaced?
Nice little cars, had some fun driving it home, think I will get the clutch sorted then enjoy it for a while. Nice to have a convertible again.

Just coming up for snow season as well. Good effort. Must have got it at a decent price at this time of year. Yup clutch is pretty much on its way out, Can not get the car in gear when its cold unless you pump the clutch pedal a few times. It then seems to be ok but after driving for about an hour gets very very hard to put into gear. Need to let it cool down then it seems to be ok again. Previous owner said it was clutch and personally feels like clutch. Very common - clutch slave cylinder - £20 and a DIY job.

Yup its a Mark 1, its a special edition Berkley. Looks lovely just a shame someone has put a tacky metal rack thing on the boot.

Its a 1998 mk1 Berkley advertised at £1995 got a bit off due to the clutch, and it generally needing a good service and a good run (which i did on sunday).
Also its a bit tappety when cold, but sounds fine when warmed up so presume its just down the the fact the car had not been used for about 6 months. Hopefully a service will sort that out.
If the clutch is ok when cold and gets slowly worse as you are driving it then that sounds more like a failing slave cylinder. Take the OS front wheel off so you can see the slave cylinder then get someone to sit in the car with the clutch pushed all the way down and held there. If you can see the clutch slowly releasing then the slave cylinder is knackered.

I'm pretty sure I did this job on a nice little MX-5 that an ex GF bought - isn't it a common thing to go?I'm not the world's most proficient spanner-wielder, but it was a piece of the proverbial to replace (and I do remember her being very grateful that I'd fixed her P&J).
