993 Turbo and warranty
Discussion
I'm am interested in purchasing a 993 Turbo from a dealer who is offering a warranty underwriten by Warranty Holdings. Are they any good and has anyone had any experience (good or bad) with them? On idle the oil pressure was about 1/3 but as soon as you blipped the throttle the needle rose near enough to the top. Is oil pressure correct for idle? Finally will a 993 Turbo fit into a standard garage?
Thanks
Thanks
As long as the car is genuine with all the history I fail to see how you can go far wrong with one of these.
Hewn from something particularly dense from the planet Solid, like previous generation Mercs, reliability would seem to be an issue of little or no concern.
The oil pressure thing is quite normal, ignore it.
Fit a sports exhaust system (standard recommendation) and revel in the subliminal quality...

Fantastic cars as DeR says and if anyone should know...
Yes, great cars,,,but the early ones are getting on for 9 years old now,,,,they are indestructible.etc.
until they are not! Then the credit card gets a beating.
As mentioned on another thread I am aware of 2 engine rebuilds 0n 993TT in the last 6 months due to low power.I would emphasise a rolling road power check, followed by a good specialist inspection and a sound warranty.
Consider the above before you drive it, once driven it will be such a buzz that you will not be concerned with such trifles as running costs and repair bills, rather a justification for not having a class A substance addiction.

Unless of course, you 'do a Clubsport' and adopt the titanium underpants route and invest in an RS variant...

That really is the genuine, purist 911 experience, pared down and laced with Tequila: raw speed, gutteral noise (still the nicest engine sound I've ever experienced in a car) and a sting well and truly coiled in the tail.
I've been thinking about mint right hookers of late and if I hadn't spent so much damn wonga on my own motor to date, would be giving serious thought to such an ownership concept.
Truly the connoissuer's 911.

Agree the note of a 993RS as the vario kicks in & the note changes from Lesley Garret into Pavarotti is somat special indeed.
Howver grab a ride in an early hot mechanical injected 911 DeR, 2.2S 2.4s or 2.7RS or if you can a 911r or a TR etc etc all sound utterly joyful, howver a real early RSR engine spitting & snorting its 300 or so bhp from a litre less capacity than a 993RS its perhaps the best sound 911 ever, as angry & as hard as a Lennox Lewis right hook yet, yet engrained & interwoven with a lighter more shrill tone, more akin to the soud given off by a firm hand smack across Kylies pert antipodean buttocks

It may come from the land of cabage eaters & leather shorts, but it is a sound to rival the operatic yowl of engines with more cylinders made by those in the land of dancing donkeys & spaggeti eaters

Arena Red on 993tt was discussed on this thread a while ago:

If this colour car will be worth less in the future just make sure you pay less for it now!

Wanand,
The turbo should fit in a standard garage. Mines does, but it is a little tight when getting out of the car. My garage walls are covered in carpet to prevent damage to the doors.
According to the manual the width of the TT is 1795mm, not sure what that is in inches though.
ronnie
Just found a conversion chart 1cm=0.39inches, so the rear end of a TT is about 70 inches

You won't go wrong with a turbo 4! I've had one for a little over 6 months and apart from the idiots at my local OPC centre who mangaged to do more damage than repair, it's been the most utterly reliable and amazingly fast thing i've owned.
It certainly will fit in your garage too!
Regarding the colour, i specifically wanted an Arena red one, with sports seats and no sunroof - found one and bought it.
The colour looks gorgeous and deep and shows off all the lovely curves.
I'm in love!

When I bought my 993TT about 9mths ago, I had a main dealer inspect the car for £150 and I bought a warrantee from them for £950. Never had to claim on it (touch wood). I have heard that some dealers will refund the inspection fee if you buy a warrantee. I have also heard that these guys do good warrantees:

...but I have no personal experience of using them.
On the issue of Arena Red, I specifically looked for Arena Red. This was the colour that Porsche used for marketing the car and was therefore very a popular choice. A couple of years ago, people were being advised against Arena Red as it was “common” however, I don’t think that argument is valid any more. Given that the cars are a few years old now, condition is the most important factor and if you actually want an Arena Red, you will have more choice and therefore be able to get a better car for the same money. I would rather have a choice of 3 Arena Reds and pick the best than take the first non-Arena Red one I found.
Its also quite nice if you like collecting old 993TT toy models, brochures, magasines, etc, etc; 8 times out of 10, it will be in Arena Red and so even more appropriate if that’s the colour of your car!

Good point Barry on the choice; that's why I managed to get the sports seats and no sunroof I expect. Anyway, everything is silver nowadays so why not stand out from the crowd. Last month, an arena red turbo was the only car on Paragons page that stood out for not being silver or black!
