V8 in a Tuscan Speed Six
Discussion
How can you tell from a pic? Maybe 400lbs and you can shed a bit. The LS1 has 350-420 hp as standard. Moving on to 450 at the tyres with a vortech bolt on supercharger. 750 odd horses with turbo's and onto 1000 hp. Somebody in Oz is speaking about 1500 bhp but I think that's hype. There's a 3500lb street ls1 running in the 9's which isn't bad (sorry it's very good). Weight isn't a penalty with this engine and it's way lighter then earlier iron chevy's. Once you take one apart you'll love it

It'll be an alloy lump as is the much loved Buick so how could it weigh more?
Apache,
It's a 5.7 so it has a little extra stroke, a bit more iron and a bit more aluminium to contain those extra cubes but it is undoubtably the business and it's very compact. You will see them at the motor show, popping up in kit cars etc and in 12 months they will be all over the place.
Now please stop me plugging them!

How much can you buy one for then?
You have to hunt around and get the spec you need. Good used ls1's crop up on ebay for $3-4k. Expect to pay more for a vette engine and a lot more for an ls6 engine. ls1's take a t56 or auto. The vette versions use a transaxle. So you won't find the vette engine with a t56 on the back of it
