It's that dreaded time for me again. Insuring my MX5.

Last year I paid £320 fully comp but this year my insurance company want £530.

I would love it if some of you could be kind enough to offer your choice of insurance company for your car. I have 12 days left so any suggestions will be followed up on.

Please help smile

No mods - Japanese Import - 4000 miles a year usage - 57 year old driver frown - No garage, kept on public road (outside my home).

I'd be looking at specialist insurers, A Plan Flux etc.
Maybe ask around on MX5 websites?

Mine's a Eunos and with Directline, can't remember how much it was but around £300 sounds about right.

Specialists are a waste of space, try Admiral.

Seconds for "A Plan" around £330 for me - 40 y/o road/garage commuting and "any mods you like except nitrous or turbo"

BLOODY HELL! They're asking YOU for over £500 with a profile like that!! Did you somehow have a car accident that caused the Gulf Coast Oil Disaster?! That mental!

I'm with HIC. Both A-Plan and Flux made me laugh with their £1000+ quotes.

Insurance cost have risen by on average 40% in the last year to pay for uninsured chavs and ambulance chasers.

I'll happily pay a bit extra to get insurance that is worth something. I've been with some of the cheap insurers before and they are fine until you make a claim - it's then you wish you'd paid that little bit extra.

Never had an accident - ever. For the last ten years I rode a bike and in the 40 years I have been driving I have been knocked off my bike once that wasn't my fault.

Both renewals I've had so far the specialists (Adrian Flux and Sky Insurance) have been a fair bit cheaper than mainstream insurers.

Unfortunately as far as I can tell there's no one insurer who gives good rates for MX-5s. I think too much must depend on all the other variables - age, NCB, location etc - given the wide variety of insurers that are always recommended.

It's definately worth ringing Adrian Flux, Sky Insurance and A-Plan to get a quote, but you may well find a better quote from the price comparison websites. Unfortunately it all takes up a lot of time, I usually get close to an acceptable amount and then give up...

For me even the cheapest still ain't cheap enough for me - don't care if Mugabe, Saddam ,Osama own shares in the insurer -don't give a monkeys as long as they are cheapest.

I made a daft mistake this year. But I am insured on an Admiral multicar policy at about £290.

I have recently checked and could get this for £145 through a firm on compare the market.com (well known brand just can't remember which??

(I am 36, 5 years ncb, 1.6 Eunos, safe postcode, 3000 miles, garaged, tpft)

Sorry for the vagueness of the post - but essentially compare the market gave me the cheapest result.
