Hi,

I've just driven home in the dark and drizzle and could see very little due to the smearing on my windscreen. Liberal application of screen wash did nothing to help the problem. Is there something that I could wash the screen with to sort this out? I have tried washing (just the screen) with washing up liquid - it doesn't seem to have helped. Or would I be better off changing the wiper blades?
Car is an S-type - standard, old-style wiper blades of indeterminate vintage.

Any and all advice gratefully accepted!

Cheers,

john

This.

Get some good quality replacements and revel in your renewed visibilty by not crashing into me.

how long have you been using that pair of wipers?
for older cars despite new pair of wipers, some smear can be there still.

Crikey! I didn't realize I'd crashed into you - told you I couldn't see very well. These Jags are quite solid... Terribly sorry old chap! wink

(thanks for the advice)

According to my boss a rinse of vinegar on the wiper blades helps them come back to life for abit....

The car is new to me, so I have no idea how old the blades are - they don't look that fresh to me. The car itself is a 2004 model...

I have this problem aswell but after driving for around 15/20 mins of constant wiper use it seems to clear up. Can be a right pain in the arse. So what's going on is it the usual build up of grime/etc on the window and it is just my wipers are innefectual or is it something else? Just seems strange to me that it eventually clears but then seems to appear again.

Wash screen as normal with detergent, sponge and water. Dry. Clean thoroughly with a microfibre cloth and denatured / isopropyl alcohol. Replace wiper blades at the same time.
