Inspired by the toilet roll thread (out is correct) I thought I would share a source of friction within my happy home.

A while ago I terminated a marital discussion about the (in my opinion unnecessary) use of washing up bowls in the kitchen sink by kicking said bowl out of the window.

Now from time to time if I say I want something It gets mentioned "that I want a washing up bowl but I am not allowed one".

I feel the use of a plastic washing up bowl put in the sink and filled with water is a pointless thing, It makes the sink smaller, does not have a plug hole so you have to tip the damn thing out while trying not to generate a tsunami down the back of the taps.

I fking hate them, I hate the fact the sink under the bds normally smells because people cannot be bothered to clean the real sink and I hate the awkwardness they produce.

Does anyone else detest them or is it just my OCD ?

Which begs the question why sink manufacturers don't make a plastic lined sink?

Apparently the cost of installing the flux capacitors required to do the lining into each factory would out weigh the benefits.

They are good if you don't have a half sink for pouring stuff away whilst washing up.

Good job there's nothing serious going on in your life to worry about, isn't it.

you get my vote, I don't see the point at all!!

Especially as I designed the layout of my kitchen to have three sinks, one for general use, one smaller one next to it so that you could still rinse things when the aforementioned one has items in it, and finally one much larger sink, IE oversize so that it could be used for everything out side of normal sink usage!!

Thankfully the OH only has a plastic bowl in one, but I feel your pain!!!

I like plastic bowls in the kitchen sink, it lets the missus move the engine bits soaking in degreaser out of the way so she can get on with the washing up and making my tea.

Plastic bowls stop you damaging the sink and minimise the risk of damaging things when you drop them into the water.

I think it's a woman thing. Win to OP.

The only conceivable advantage is that you use a bit less hot water, thereby saving 0.001p/month.

Have you tried asking WHY she wants a plastic bowl in the sink? If so, do any reasons emerge?

"Her mum has one" is the only reason so far.

The "when you drop glasses in the sink they don't break" argument get shot down very quickly if you just don't drop glasses in the sink.

It doesn't matter, we are not having another one or it will get the same treatment as the last.

Then again, if she does the washing up, humour her and buy her a really nice plastic bowl. You'll never have to see it smile
