I need cheaper gas/electric
Discussion
Our bills seem quite excessive to me, theres 2 of us here. Been here for 9 months now , have just turned the heating on, quite well insulated detached 4 bed 80's buil;d, almost every bulb led, we have literally no appliances on until 6pm ish, c/h comes on for a half hour or so am and a while (?) in the eves.
I am quite on the ball regarding leaving lights on etc.
we have been paying £127 a month which is now being put down to £105 and it sounds excessive to me. I will ask my parents who their supplier is as theirs is around £60 a month combined in similar house but with not as good insulation, people at home all day, no energy saving bulbs and not shy of having the c/h on.
£105 for a young couple sounds silly to me, or am i just being tight
i would dread to imagine what it would be if i had 'normal' lightbulbs and poorer insulation like it used to have (and funnily enough the previous owners had 3 kids and were paying less than we do).

Are there actual meter readings, or are they estimates? If the latter, you can read it yourself and phone in the number and they'll recalculate the monthly payment. We're fairly careful, our bills for a 4 bed were around £90 gas and £55 electricity. We've now got a new boiler and wood burning stove so we'll see what the next year's like.
If you know someone with Costco membership, they're selling an electricity meter which lets you wander round the house turning things on & off to see what difference it makes. About £22 I think. You'd probably find one in Maplins.

Yes its seperate, i think for 3 months the electric was £131 and the gas about £95 iirc so we have actually used something like £75 per month which is not too bad, but i do think should/could be lower (remember we only use 'stuff' at night for a few hours and on weekends.
Its where they get the £105 from that bothers me, i am also in credit to the tune of around £85.
They just seem to make the bills excessivly complicated with no real sense.
I have seen those little meters i may get one, if anything because i like digital readouts

They'll build up credit during the summer so when winter comes there'll be enough to make up for the extra energy you use. They won't pay interest on it though. Your electricity is about the same as mine, your gas quite a lot lower, but I do have children so we probably use a lot more hot water.

Switched mine again recently after doing a comparison on Uswitch but did it (with the same tariff) via Quidco - £110 cashback is on the way
