RR petrol or diesel?
Discussion
Good morning brethren, a few questions for you RR gurus if I may...
I'm considering a used RR for use as a semi-daily driver, and am unsure as to which engine would be best.
Fuel consumption isn't important, and mileage will be about 8K per year.
Usage would be:
- Mainly local B roads
- Frequent offroad (I live down an unmade road)
- Occasional towcar
- Occasional town use
- Occasional motorway
My gut feeling leans me towards a petrol 2005/6 4.4 or 4.2 S/C but I am totally ignorant of their reliability or characteristics.
Is one engine "better" than the other?
Should I consider the TD6 for any reason?

If fuel consumption isn't important then get the supercharged.
However, I would personally get the TDV8 for the increased range.
Only go TD6 if economy is important to you as performance is significantly compromised compared to petrol / TDV8 variants.

Buy a 4.2 Supercharged Vogue SE and save your yoruself £5000 to £6000 over a TDV8 and spend that saving on fuel!
The TDV8 is a great engine though and I have run several and had not probs.

The saving in fuel won't cover the additional purchase cost.
However, bear in mind that the ways things are going, if you buy the petrol version, be prepared to have trouble selling it.
