Today I decided to replace the rubber seal under the 944's hatch back. All was going well until I decide it would be easier if I removed the glass hatch comletely, please dont ask me how this happened its a bit embarrasing !

Ouch!!!!
Bit late now, but when you've got a new hatch and do the seal again:
1. Lay the seal in place with the join above the number plate
2. Press the two ends above the number plate into place then work both ways around the hatch leaving loose ridges every foot or so and finishing in the middle of the roof.
3. Go back and press down all the ridges. Don't be tempted to cut the seal smaller unless it is hopelessly too long.

Hi,
If you're interested in going for a plastic rear screen it would be worth contacting Simon at www.porsch-apart.co.uk as I managed to get one from him a year or two ago. IIRC mine had to be specially ordered, but he had a pair made and put one into stock so it just might still be available.
However its worth remembering that you will never be able to get a really good air tight seal when using one (I'm using draft excluding tape to solve the worst of the leaks on mine!).
Best regards,
Peter.
