My neighbour is in the process of getting her license. Her and her husband are both from Russia (no, she's not hot and there will be no pics). They want to buy a small, cheap family car (have a 5yo son as well).

So, need a cheap family runabout (up to about £1k I guess), cheap to insure etc The usual.

The tricky part is, since neither of them has a full license, they will only be able to drive with someone with a full license next to them. Are they going to be abel to insure something in their own name at all?

Yes they can certainly insure - my girlfriend's insurance with a provisional wasn't too bad, it's only when she passed when it got a bit silly (forutnately not too bad as she passed at 27yrs old).

The car can be fully insured in their name, no probs.

What car is a different matter though!

Cheers Tony. Oh, and see you Saturday for a pint.

On car, I was thinking along these lines?

Indeed - looking forward to it!

Looking at that car, that seems a lot of car for the money! I'm a bit out of touch with what's available at that sort of price - my head would say something like a Focus, but I didn't realise you could get a clean, if leggy, BMW for such a low amount!
