Is Houx still the place to be?

My mates and I are in the process of booking up camping pitches for next years Le Mans. Is it worth paying more, and having a couple of pitches that are not numbered, over say Karting Nord? Or Houx Annex? Both of those we could get numbered slots, or get a 105sqm pitch..

We will want to get down there on Thurs.

Any help would be great!!

I guess the benefits are that Houx is more secure than Annex or Karting Nord and has electrical hookups (although the unnumbered pitches tend to be furthest away from the hookups), it's a bit quieter too if that's what you're after. There's a whole row of unnumbered pitches toghether (see http://www.beermountain.com/campinghoux.htm for map) that rarely have many tents on them so you should be able to get two together easily, especially on Thursday. Still seems to be the main site for TVRs too...please tell me you're taking the S3C, not the van!

Houx is still probably about the best. Permanant toilets / showers, electric hookup and its pretty secure and close to the track. Interestingly last year when the electric tripped out on our section of site, the people on the gate said they didnt have the keys to the electric box, as the electric was provided out of good will. When i questioned the fact i thought it was included in the price, they again said no, its provided out of good will.

However it didnt take us long to "gain access" to the trip switch!

Houx is ideal for me though, being disabled, its about the closest I can get to the track!

has anyone stayed at Karting Nord? We can get a 105sqm pitch there, but heard that there are less Brits staying at that site.

Is it a good site?

We stayed there last year and it was excellent. If you camp the far end near to the Kart circuit thats where most the brits end up and its the best part of the site away from the Dutch (rowdy)the Danes (lunatics) and Germans (dull) Only a short walk to the entry. Is noisy as you are very close to the track. We will deffo go back in the future. Ground is hard and it can get very dusty near to the outer road. Showers/toilets are just about ok. Have a look on Google Maps and see the bit at the bottom of the picture. There are some trees and a triangle. Try to camp there. We got our tickets through 1st Tickets and thats where they put us. Perfect !

Thanks for that info, it's JUST what we needed to know. Do you know if any of the 105sqm pitches were available in the 'Brit' area?

Been on Houx for years with the TVRCC and stayed there again last year after getting tickets from another source.

Sadly the pitches were not is as good a location on the site as the TVRCC used to have before they gave them up and whilst there were some good groups near us they were outnumbered by the ignorant troglodytes. Irregular fireworks outside other people's tents between the hours of 12 and 5am from Wednesday onwards and low rent stag parties who only leave the camp for the supermarket are usually confined to the the Blues and Annex but are spilling over into Houx.

Tony. Not sure, you will have to contact 1st Tickets and see what they have. Explain about the area I mentioned, they are very helpful. I think all pitches are numbered so its best to talk to them. Good luck.

Stayed on Houx for the first time last year, had a numbered pitch but
by the time we arrived late Friday night in the pi**ing rain, after an horrendous
journey, some tt in a red chimaera had taken our pitch. we were too tired to do
anything so found another pitch. Come the morning we saw no one around and after a
few beers we just could not be bothered and just made the best of it. Never did see
them, but they no who they are.

Take heed of those who are saying the ground is hard. It's like bloody concrete.

The site itself is okay but you really need a pneumatic drill or something to pitch.

.......and then when it rains hard the ground turns to porridge and all of your tent pegs pull out. Add trenching tool to the pneumatic drill.

Ah, the memories! Right up there as one of the best fun Le Mans though!

In my op Houx is the best,been on blue nord and Exhibition houx is far far better

I have always used the old rules of camping, where rain is a possibility, camp on the top of a hill and not the bottom and if the ground is flat and green think flooding, experience tells me that TR is the safest and best campsite

Hi,

After reading horror stories of Bleu Nord, I have just changed to Beausejour, as a few other people on other PH forums had said it was much better. Why do you think it was so ste? Any advice anyone could offer on how to make the best of Beausejour would be highly apprecieated, ie the best place to camp there ( I believe its vast?!) where its not going to flood, close to the best toilets etc?

This is my first trip to Le Mans, and im taking my Dad for his 60th birthday, and at the moment I can imagine saying "Happy Birthday Dad, now queue for 30 minutes to take a dump and another 30 minutes to shower in cold water....you're welcome"

Just wondered where it was you were supposed to be originally. We had 4 spaces with 2 cars together but the numbering of some of the pitches was a little 'unusual' to say the least. Mainly enquiring as anxious to ensure that it wasn't us you had the issue with. No one mentioned anything like it to us at the time, only the dread boys asked us about their Christmas tree which an unknown nab from their camp and wrapped in our fairy lights!

Just to put you right on one thing.The TVRCC were not given an allocation for 2010.Alison at the club office tried and tried but to no avail.The TVRCC .did however manage to negotiate a discount for members to obtain their tickets from other agents.

It was a shame because after so many years we had got probably the better pitches.
