In the name of student food, how bad are these for you ?

Read a lot on the internet from years before 2004, i presume they have made them better these days but cannot find a good news story to have a read on so does anyone know on here?

I noticed one of the TV chef's bad mouthing them the otherday, presumably for all the right reasons, i want to know these reasons

regards
danny

Full of salt, sugar and partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, AFAIK.

Jesus.

As you can probably tell i said "only 2 grams" expecting it to be a lot higher.

I guess they are better than not eating at all though?

I used to like Pot Noodles as an occasional snack meal. Yes, they used to be loaded with salt, but they reduced it drastically a while back.

The only problem is that now they are virtually tasteless without it... so to make them taste better you end up actually adding more salt than they took out!

Not in the short term, no.

Although there is a very specific exception: they make marvellous filthy hangover food.

One of the things I like about a three day fishing trip is that it creates an excuse to dig out the camping gear and eat utter filth. All day breakfast in a can is one highlight, and pot noodles are another. Wrong, but right. Harmless in small doses.

I have quite refined taste in food, but yet, there are times when only the Skanky Crack we of Snacks will do.

For me it's a close run thing between 'Southern Fried', 'Bombay Bad Boy' and 'Doner Kebab', however I think 'Doner Kebab' has it by a nose.

Curiously, Waitrose don't stock any of these. A sniffy nod to 'Chicken and Mushroom' - and even then on the bottom shelf as far away from the sight of decent people as it's possible to get - will have to do.

Consequently I make a special trip to Asda for Pot Noodle, where the full range of flavours is available. Along with each variant of Relentless, and Russian Standart vodka for £18 a litre - conveniently on the same aisle.

How thoughtful. smile

When i was a student, I discovered much, much better filth food. Go to Yips supermarket (or your local equivalent), and get some noodles with chilli sauce. 39 pee a packet (you have to buy a silly amount at a time, but it's still only 5 quid or so), but much healthier, and they taste awesome. Just don't eat too many, that chilly is firey as a few hours later mad

Used to be able to get really nice soup noodles in a cup in Hong Kong, with a little sachet of sesame oil in them.

The worst thing about Australia is the media.

The second worst thing is the legislation surrounding cars and driving.

The third worst thing is I have never been able to try a Doner Kebab Pot Noodle despite considerable pleading with the homebods.

Couldn't agree more.

If mrs k is working during a weekend, then a pot noodle for lunch is - for me - acceptable food slaggery in the absence of her finely crafted sarnies.

I can't do a Bombay PN, though.

Just when you thought you'd seen it all...

Spotted in Asda today: 'Christmas Dinner' flavour Pot Noodle.

Marketing genius.

Google [bot] - you have one of these winging its way to you, along with 'Doner Kebab', 'Southern Fried' and 'Bombay Bad Boy'.
