Hi All, after years of wanting one (and posting here) i finally bought a blue late 95 xjr6 (3 owners and 107k on the clock). It perfectly complements my cerbera for the winter.

Just a slight niggle that i need to sort out and maybe you can help with. The airbag light is constantly on. I know from BMWs that this is usually due to fault with the seatbelt tensioners found under the seats (in the bmw). Would this be something similar for the Jag? are there any other areas i should look for?

Many thanks

Not sure with the airbag light, but it is usually worth giving the battery a good charge and seeing whether the problem goes away. Slightly low voltages can lead to some funnies with the electrics.

Not sure how good you'll find the XJ in snow :-)
Mine's hopeless in the white stuff.
But I guess it would probably be easier than the Cerb.

I'm stripping an x300 for spare and haven't found seat belt tensioners. Check the fuses as there might be one for airbags and replace with new ones just to be sure. Try disconnecting the battery while you recharge it and see if the light goes out then. Failing that, it might be one of the airbags themselves. If mucking about with the aibags disconnect battery. Steering wheel one isn't hard to replace - just two torx screws on the back of the wheel and undo the wire connector. The passenger bag is more difficult but maybe an hours work. Remove trim/glove box under dash. Disconnect wiring to glove box lamp. Swing veneer panel upwards and off it's hinge after undoing some 8mm-ish nuts/bolts(can't quite remember how many). Airbag is held in a carrier with larger 13mm-ish bolts (x4?). Pull out airbag and carrier. Then you will see a blue box which is the airbag module. I've just removed the whole dash and had to remove the blue box as a matter of course, but, I think you might get away without having to remove the dash to get that blue box out. Unfortunately I've no idea how to test the system without potential catestrophic consequencies and I realise that bying 2 airbags and a airbag module could be fairly expensive. At least you now know how to check for loose wiring though.

STRAIGHT6DOHC would you be itnerested in selling your exhaust manifolds from the x300 if they are good?

Thanks

Sorry friend. I've got to keep these ones as spares. Apparently the xjr cracks these manifolds more quickly than the NA cars because of the higher exhaust gas temperatures. Probably only useful for 70000 or so.

I collected my X300 from it's service yesterday and Chris from WSM was trying to persuade me to replace the manifold and downpipes. They've found a source of tubular ones that are supposed to look great (I didn't see them) don't have the restrictive cats in the down pipe and I suspect aren't prone to the cracking you can get where all the pipes come together on the original ones.

Be interesting to hear more about these tubular ones.
