I'd be very careful that your insurance is actually valid on an untaxed car.

If you don’t tax or SORN your vehicle

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) carries out a computer check each month, as well as roadside checks to identify those vehicles without a valid tax disc. You could face an automatic penalty of £80 as well as a minimum fine of £1000. Your vehicle could be clamped, impounded or even crushed.

No tax will also mean your insurance is invalid I believe? If so you could receive points and a further fine for driving an uninsured vehicle.

ANPR. You'll get pulled with all the trouble that goes with that....Also can't they seize an un taxed car there and then?

Isn't it about £80? So many ANPR cameras, getting caught is a very high risk.

Failing that, book it in for an MOT at your destination and cancel once you get there...

In that case, I will just have to tax it and refund it after the weekend.

Thanks

You have to produce a valid insurance cert to be able to purchase a VED, since when does having no VED invalidate your insurance ?

If you pass a DVLA operation, potentially your car can be clamped or towed. You might get away with it. You might not. Recommend you swallow the cost and tax it, or borrow a vehicle from someone who has paid their tax

It doesn't. Neither does driving with excess alcohol.

Watch out for fixed APNR cameras.

At best, if stopped you will have a long walk home as they will probably impound the vehicle. Used to see regular checks in the Redhill area when I worked over there a couple of years ago and the bib had a transporter to take all the untaxed cars away.

Also, on top of fixed penalty and any fine you will also have to pay for road tax back from when it was last taxed, no matter how long ago and no allowance for it being laid up.

Expensive.
