Anyone had a successful claim against a Glasgow council for pothole damage?

Driving along Hawthorn Street in Possil lasnight, minding my own business.. "BANG" This was the biggest force i've experienced from a bump in the road. The car actually cut out and then wouldnt start for a few minutes - Could have activated the fuel cut of or something ?

On inspection my front left rim is now a nice 50p shape, rear left has a slightly less larger dent and god knows what other damage could be done to the suspension or whatever.

Looking at the road this morning, the hole isnt even that big, seems to be just pretty deep and has a bit of a "lip" sticking up which i think is whats caused the main ding in the wheel.

Is it even worth my time trying to claim the stty council?

Had a wheel refurb and tyres out of Renfrewshire Council but haven't tried GG.
Key is to get the pothole reported to the council roads dept and get detailed phots with a ruler to prove depth width measurements and get phots of the damage before claiming. There is a claim form which you can request from them and then they will have you deal with their solicitor...
Good luck!

Found these on my HD from the incident:

I recommend a hi viz vest for getting the phots - can be a bit hairy on a busy road.

[Croc Dundee]That's not a pothole![/Croc Dundee] That's a tiddler compared to some of the weegie ones! Very scary on a motorbike when you come across tar banding that has collapsed and left a front tyre-wide sized strip about ten yards long and four inches deep. Mind you, at least we can weave to avoid without crossing lanes.....

Good luck with the claim, get some decent photos (with ruler/other object for scale), and if you want to share the love with others, http://www.potholes.co.uk/.

We've got a taxi biz in Possil. Possil potholes are THE worst and cost us a fortune. Tyres. Wheels. Shockers. Ball joints. Even sump damage. The corner at Sarry X hasn't been right for a year now. It WAS repaired. Didn't last a week. Of course it ends when someone's killed. Probably a biker.Pity it takes that to get stuff fixed.

just across from the bingo...

see if this works

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&am...

Can actually see it in that screen. I've been down that road numerous times and never noticed it, so might have been fixed and has became fked again.

Does anyone know the timelimit within which you have to claim with Glasgow council? Is there a max set of months after your incident that you have to lodge your complaint/claim?

Smashed my bumper off an unmarked speedbump behind Glasgow Uni. Basically concrete ramp had no marks on it, at the top was kerb onto monoblock raised section, then kerb then back down other side (again concrete). Hit it about 20mph in the wet and my bumper hit the lip of the very uneven kerb and cracked the bumper up the middle. Took 7 months and just chasing, no arguing and I got the £700 to repair and respray.

Roadsigns were facing onto road as well, not up and down the road.

I hit a pot hole just outside Carnwath ( Lang Wang ) and reported it. It destroyed my alloy, shredded the tyre and caused loads of damage. I filled in the form and sent it off. About a week later I got a letter from a lawyer on behalf of the council saying that I only had a case if I could prove that they were neglegent. They provided me with loads of paperwork saying that they had a maintenance program and the road was being looked at ( as it had already been repaired ) and it was scheduled for re-laying and as such they were not neglegent. I gave up, but was £700 lighter for the repairs.

My advice, DON'T GIVE UP if you are out of pocket.

See, i thought this would be the case as they would be getting claims for 1000's constantly.

I'm going to contact google, see if they can give me a date when the streetcam was done as the hole is clearly still there.

Heres a couple of examples of it taken today...

Easily avoided daytime, but when its full of water and at night you have no chance.

It was South Lanarkshire council I was dealing with, so you might not have as much trouble. This is the council who are still persuing non payment of Poll Tax back in the '80s and have a zero tollerance of non council tax payment.

Once it filled with water it might be 3 feet deep, you can't tell until it's too late.

The google isn't recent because you can see the old bus garage (including our big taxi billboard) if you wiggle it around a bit, most of which Jimmy has subsequently demolished.

Aye I had guessed it wouldnt be recent. I've fired an email off to google, see if they can give an idea of when the streetview was done. Least that way i can show the council its been there a while.

Keycars eh... You lot done up the car wash in maryhill aye?

Yes indeed! The wash bit's operating now and by next week the valet bay should be fully ready. Week after for tyres. Not a bad renovation if I say so myself!

Called the council this morning, was refused a claim form to start with untill i logged a call for the defect to be replaced.

Explained i'd be happy to do so as i had various photographic proof of the pothole inquestion to which i got the reply "erm..eh aye ok eh.. i'll put u through"

Think they were hoping i'd log the call, get it fixed and that would be the end of it lol.

Spoke to a nice lady in the roads department and just waiting for the paper work to come out now.

Best of luck - there is a process just be polite and patient..there is a budget line for claims its just a matter of jumping through the hoops.
