Dash light buttons

Okay, well it didn't take me long to stumble across a little niggly problem!
Having some issues with getting the sidelights/dash to stay on!
Yesterday, i pressed the sidelight button and the lights and dash came on, only to go back off again as soon as i removed my finger from the button. This happened numerous times and must have worried some other drivers...
Eventually, i managed to get the button to stay in and the lights to stay on. I could then turn the dips on.
This morning, the sidelight button worked without fail. However the dipped worked okay first time, but then would only work after turning the fog light on first - confused!!
At first i thought this was a machinical rather than electrical issue, but with the fog light 'helping' the dipped to come on, i'm now not so sure.
How easy is it to remove one of these dash buttons? Do they twist/rotate out? Thanks in advance for any advice :-)
