I happen to be in Brisbane for a month or so.

A friend from Byron Bay phones me up and says Guy Gowan is running a seminar for Photoshop techniques and his approach to working with photoshop. Whilst it sounds interesting - I hadn't heard of the fella.

My friend later texts me and says that he's running a presentation for the local Queensland camera club in the evening after the seminat at the same location and the entry is $5 AUD.

Since I was mid process for choosing which restaurant to eat that evening the choice was made. I'ld forego food and attend Guy's presentation instead.



I'm glad I did. A very very interesting insight from the print background of litho to modern day post processing.


I'll summarise the three hour section in the following phrases.


All digital cameras suck regardless of make.
All images taken with them need post processing work done on them.
Photoshop has many ways to do things - because all of them options are as bad as each other - none of them really do the job properly.
Channel Mixer is a good thing.
Masks and especially the inverse mask is a good thing.

There are some youtube video's related to his processes but having seen some of his DVD's since the event I can see where he's coming from and I can strangely enough see why Photoshop is ste.

I recommend folks have a google for guy gowan.

I think I saw a few minutes of him giving a presentation at Focus on Imaging last year. If not him them his twin.

Interesting stuff but as I don't use PS some of the finer points were lost on me.

Simpo, I think his background is more graphic design and marketing than photography. Hence the detailed knowledge of PS.
