Hi

Ive just landed myself a new job 30 miles away ( Birmingham to Coventry ) down the M6

i will need transport when there, but wont get a Company car for 6mths.

so im trying to determin the best way for me to go about "being productive"

Ive put a few options above and would appretiate your input smile

Car is about 45min in moderate traffic ( dont know what traffic is like a commuting time... but im guessing BAD! )

The Train will take about 35mins

125cc bikes may be fun, but i cant go on the m'way with them i dont think

And i can see taxi fares eating my entire wage!!! lol

A big waftmobile is the answer 3L+ & 6cyl+. Auto to take the pain out of the traffic, aircon for the hot days, a nice stereo to listen to soothing music/Radio 4.

A bike - what about the rainy days?

Public transport - you do know which website you are on right?

Why not do your direct access and get a bigger bike?

Failing that, I'd try driving to begin with and then look at other options once you know how bad it is.

30 miles? man up!

My commute is 45 miles... M2/A2, M25 and M23. Forty minutes on a good day, an hour on an average day. You do NOT want to know how long on a bad day...! but bad days are rare.

You get used to it quickly.

I'd love to get a bandit 600cc as a commuter, but dont have the spare cash availible to do a DAS just yet... and i start work on the 22nd of this month!

A mate used to do the same trip, I'm sure he had to allow over an hour, due to traffic.
125 bike would be allowed on motorway (wouldn't it?)

And how much do you think a decent 125 will cost to buy? I'd wager more than a DAS and a cheap 600...

yesAnd I found a CB500 gutless enough to be scary on the motorway, I dread to think what a 125 would feel like.

ETA and I'm not sure how long it'd last doing an hour each day at full chat.

I was about 600 quid when I was looking, but decent 125s were all 1k+, whereas you can get an old but usable big bike for a few hundred.

I used to do from near you down to northampton so know that route reasonable well.

join M6 at J7, it is slow but moves down to spaghetti, then free ish down to the 4 lane bit, bit gets snarled up when it goes back to 3 lanes. Normally the traffic was fairly consistant as long as I left before 8. After 8 it is a nightmare.

It had very little advantage taking the motorbike as the time saved was less than the time to get changed at each end.

OK, OP, either pass your test & get a proper bike, or do we start looking at suggestions for a car in classifieds?

Where in Cov? I'm on Westwood Bus Park. I commute to there by car from Redditch (30 miles), although not every day. Many of the others in my company commute from Brum too.
