Don't worry, not a "Should I buy one" thread. Definitely not, wouldn't be seen dead.

Anyway, do the brake lights flash on these? I was following one yesterday and for some reason when it braked its lights were flashing then came on fully, is this some new jazz thing or was it just a dodgy earth? And whats the point in them flashing?

I've noticed this on new Astras, I think it's just a combination of really sensitive brake pedal and indecisive braking.

It could be safety - i.e. brake lights flash when brakes are applied hard or in certain situations on some cars?

It was normal braking, thats why I was surprised.. I was following at a reasonable distance and didn't have to brake hard either.

It was normal braking, thats why I was surprised.. I was following at a reasonable distance and didn't have to brake hard either.

Gawd knows then, seems a bit random - will look out for it now, though it will get my stress levels up as I have a complete and irrational hatred of all things astra/insignia.

It was an 09 plate so it could have time to develop a fault in the system, delivery time is long enough to develop a fault on those lovely Vauxhalls

They flash when the ABS is active, even if braking gently on gravel the ABS may have been interfering....

Ah right. Normal conditions and the road is actually quite a nice road, which makes a change from the norm.

I don't know if it is a new EU regulation or something but I noticed it on this video of the new M5 too http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyI... Have a look around 55 seconds and the lights do the same thing. Must a be a new thing the manufacturers are bringing in.

A flashing/strobing brake light is much more visible, and most of the non-dullards in the world take that as the car in front is on the ABS in an emergency situation, and not slowing a little for a corner.

Human eyes can detect flashing lights much quicker than those not flashing.

Hazards coming on during hard braking is just plain stupid!! It messes with other road users minds. My mates C2 used to do it all the time, it looked rediculous!!!!! I even saw a C2 rally car on Dave the other day with the hazards going every time he jumped on the brakes.........whats the point!!!!!

I understand the reasoning when heading into heavy standing traffic, but i have the ability to press that little special button as and when i think it is important to do so.

I guess you havnt been in a car for any length of time with this stupid "safety aid". I have and i got fed up of turning the bloody thing off every now and again, its just distracting for the driver and bloody annoying for the passenger!
