Found myself on a stretch of private dual carriageway yesterday with a very nice looking E46 M3. Ended up have a play from around 70leptons and was supprised the old bus actually outdragged the M3! I didn't exactly destroy him but made a definate point that the bus was quicker.... supprised and disapointed me as always thought they were quick.... how times move on.

I did try a wave when I pulled off near home but he was not amused by the look of it.

Some of those Paxtons can have quite a lot of torque, idea for rolling acceleration, but the weight, and also the tacho limiter usually keeps a lid on things.

What did your passengers say?

edit- Plaxton!

Bearing in mind my previous car I was just commenting that it was a suprise to out accelerate an very tidy M3... just a bit of fun really but I was supprised as the bus is just a tide me over whilst I recover from the financial raping I got with the VXR. I can see why some forums here are not very active! rolleyes

Ahhh!!!
You have some sort of Vauxhall!

Although you know what you drive,
and your mates down the pub know you as that bloke who has some sort of a Vauxhall,
you're not currently famous enough for everyone on here to know you as the bloke with some sort of Vauxhall.

Why did the monaro rape you? Did you not realise the running costs of a V8?

No not like that. Broke the engine but was expecting that with well over 600hp on stock pistons. Had it rebuilt totally but the idiot I decided upon to do it took 10months and never finished it off - ie It didnt run! Ended up going to Monkfish who fixed all the issues it had from the previous builder but it costs another 6k to get it running only to be told the charger was no longer big enough for the 402block. Had enough at this point so a nice guy in Dorset has it now as his company car. VXR8 next with a large NA block.

I looked at your profile too..
The bus is a Clio?

As for mine- wheels from an old 5 series, tyres from some mustang or something, part worns from the US is the only place i can find them!

The Bus is 550 then!

I saw that edit....

Not too surprised by this, as you're obviously winning the torque contest hands down... so unless M3 bloke was already in 3rd at 70mph, you're going to get the jump on him.

What a remarkable coincidence that you should both be on a "private dual carriageway" at the same time!.
Care to name where this private road is so everyone else can go racing other cars and stay within the law?.

The biggest problem with these sort of threads (apart from the strange: "I need to show that smug M3 driver that his car is not as quick as he likes to think it is!" attitude from the OP), is that it always assumes that the other driver is automatically pushing his car equally as hard. For all the OP knows, the M3 could have been just ambling along making very little effort to keep up as the driver felt he had nothing to prove.

He was probably fed up with yet another idiot trying to prove that his car is faster than an M3 in a straight line!. Try the same game on a decent "private twisty road", as that is the type of road that the M3 was designed for!.

QFT yes (Although to be fair, it's not necessarily the worst, it's just one of far too many).

4rephill.... mid 8's round the ring in an old e30 325i so quite happy to play in the twistys mate but I don't on the road as to many factors to consider, old and wiser or slower possibly! wink i was just supprised the 550 kept and even pulled on him, shows how well insulated the E60's are as it does not feel fast in everyday use. Still like the M3 and may get one in a few years as a work hack as their prices seem to be tunmbling so becoming bargains!
Both feel very slow compared to my old Monaro though, hence the saving going on now to get back in a big HP car again.
