Breaking news on BBC! Have to say this is one of the the more surreal headings on the news today.

Looks like the train had pretty much a lucky escape, seems to have hit the end of one carriage. Was heading into London, might have been a different story if it was heading the other way.

Place your bets... I'm guessing he didn't see a queue of stationary traffic at the lights, looked up, swerved?

It just reminds me of:

<telephone rings>
Radio 1 DJ Steve Wright: Hello, Mr Spoons?
Mr Spoons: Yes?
SW: Ca you tell us where you're calling from today?
MS: Yes, yes, yes. I'm in a cement mixer on the M1.

I don't think the mixer hit the train..

I think what has damaged the train is part of the bridge wall. You can see the scars on the bank where the mixer has gone down.

The damage area on the train roof looks just like a section of the bridge wall has chopped into it.

Yes, that's what the news headline says. Obviously, it was propelled off the bridge by propulsives forces, but from that point onwards it fell onto the train under the forces of gravity. rolleyes

I think anyone planning on going home via Waterloo should be sidling out of the office door by now.

Surely not far behind the wall falling was the lorry? All accounts so far say the lorry bounced off the train.
I guess we'll have to wait for some concrete evidence. getmecoat

First thing to have hit that train would have been brickwork off the bridge, then the mixer went down the bank.

Mixer is just too heavy (even empty) to have bounced off the train it would have derailed it.

I stand to be corrected but I think that is what happened.

The mixer has gone through the parapet on the bridge where Warren Lane crosses the tracks just north of Oxshott Station. Looking at the Google Street View of the bridge, it seems vehicles clobber that parapet on a regular basis.

Wasn't a dig at your OP, just a bit perplexed as to how a truck manages to just lose all sense of balance and 'fall' onto a train.

It's driven off a bridge, through the parapet and fallen down onto the train below.

The truck appears to be on the opposite siude of the track to the damage to the train, although the dent on the train does look very concrete drum shaped.

Mind numbing voice over there.

I doubt the truck landed on the train otherwise I'd expect a derailment and more damage to the carriages. More likely a load of the bridge wall hit the train and the truck landed trackside.

The truck has obviously landed cab down and the drum has gone over and landed on the train, the forward motion of the train pushing the truck to the side. Bits of wall wont do damage that severe.

Depends what you mean by "bits". A big lump of wall would do that damage.. looking at this pic you can see what looks like masonry/brick dust.
