...that you are allowed to break any rule of the road - as long as you have your hazard lights on!

I set off from my house earlier this evening to be greeted by a removals van parked blocking the road, which is a main(ish) road where there are cars parked down one side and the van parked on the other side with its hazard lights on.

'Fair enough' I think to myself - there was a more than ample space only 20 yards down the road but if they have a heavy item to shift you can understand them parking there temporarily. Except they weren't there temporarily. They came out several times to remove items from the back, each time looking at but ignoring me. Perhaps my car is hard to notice or something. The fourth or fifth time they came out I bibbed the horn, attracting the attention of the men. I pointed to the space slightly further down the road only to be greeted by shaking of the head from both of them. They took another item and went in the house with it. By this time there are four or five cars behind me and a bunch of cars queueing at the other side.

Upon their return I give a slightly longer bib of the horn, only to be greeted with 'fk OFF' from one of the men whilst the other one shouts 'DICK HEAD' and the points to the flashing hazard lights - 'fkING BLIND ARE WE?' he shouts.

Now from what I remember of my theory test, the hazard lights are there to be used when you have broken down in a hazardous place and need to draw the precariousness of your stricken vehicles positioning to the attention of other drivers, or to warn people behind of an impending hazard, for example sharp motorway braking.

It would appear, however that the rules have since been rewritten which means that any prick can do any fking thing they like, as long as they put the hazards on. I recently saw a car drive through a filter light (to permit turning right) by going straight on effectively running a red light. But it was okay. They put their hazards on first.

What the fk is wrong with people? Is it now permissable to do what the stting hell you like regardless of the rules that you are breaking as long as you place on your hazards? Has the level of driving competence really slipped this fking low? Or is society on the whole just so arrogant that many many people now believe themselves to be above the rules and the law and probably think they are doing the right thing by indicating their intention to do what the fk they like?

It shouldn't still astound me, but it still does!

They took a couple more bits out then finally succumbed to the sheer volume of abuse they were receiving from the other drivers. They actually had the nerve to tell one guy that they were sure waiting ten minutes wouldn't kill him!

Did you take down the name of removal company ,perhaps a call to the boss would be in order ?

Also it seems okay to drive on hard shoulders at speed if hazards are used ,to avoid hold ups mad

Should have waited until they went in with the next item then stopped an inch from their tailgate, stop the tts shifting anything until they shift the van.

Depends how highly you value your bonnet, mind... hehe

You should have slashed there tyres so they could have a reason for their hazards being on!!! See I can understand if you require blocking some of the road for unloading heavy items, but if its for many items and cars can get past at all then its complete BS!!!

Should have got out and spoke to the other drivers to establish a cover story and rammed the back of the truck/van. When the Police arrive he/she reversed into you in a road rage incident and you have five witnesses to back you up. wink

Better still report the van to the Police offloading Canabis plants/firearms/doughnuts (delete as to what would get the quickest response). hehe

Round here? The police wouldn't be bothered.

If they drove off at 33mph though - god help them.

I think it's the same school of thought that say's you can do anything you want as long as you are wearing a high viz jacket. Try it- start sawing through a bike lock in jeans and a T-shirt and you'll get mobbed. Put on a high viz and people will even offer to hold the lock steady as you saw!

That's an excellent idea! For added anonymity - wear a hard hat!

make asmuch noise as you can to p155 off everyone who lives there, getting an angry mob going the 2 muppets would have moved.

Why didn't you just man up, get out the car and bcensoredk them. Failing any response just start dialing 999 (allowing them to know).

I may be going against the grain here, but I never have an issue with 'works' vehicles being in the way. The guys are just earning a living, let them get on with it. The quicker they can do their job, the sooner they'll be back in their van.

Just find a different route.

I have been in a simular situation to this but with a lazy fat bh who had stopped to unload her shopping rather than walk the 10 yards from the nearest parking space. I pulled up behind her and couldnt believe my eyes! So i thought, fk this, im going around her. So i mounted the curb and slowly drove past only to be greated by an ugly angry face mumbling something at me under her breath as if i am the tt for wanting to go about my business without being held up by some lazy backwards fat fking inbread. ps off you fat tart!!!!!

I feel for you mate!

Seriously?

I can imagine something like a few days ago I was going down a road, not that big but there was a truck there lifting stuff off to a front garden with the big HIAB.. I just pulled up and waited, the bloke operating the truck gave a wave and let me know he'll be a few minutes, he was a few minutes and drove off thanking me for waiting.

No problem at all, but s like the OP had deserve getting st for it.

Did you not read the bit that said there was a space 20 yards down the road?
