Heading for London at xmas with SWMBO to see a couple of shows etc.

We are staying near Marble Arch/Oxford Street and could do with some suggestions for a decent restaurant nearby, doesn't have to be mega flash but looking for a decent standard of food + service, not too worried about cost as it's a rare treat.

Cheers

It's possiby the wrong end of Oxford street, but I'd definitely recommend Arbutus on Frith Street'

Superb food, great service, excellent prices.

Cheers, close is good but that looks like it's worth a look.

Other suggestions still welcomed!

Fifteen to twenty minute walk down from Marble Arch or jump on a bus and you'll be there in five in the evenings.

If you are into middle eastern food try one of the Maroush family on Edgware Rd, go for an evening that has belly dancing on and then round off with some shisha.

As recommended to me on here - been a couple of times since. Very very good and very close to where you are.

There's plenty to choose from around there. Locanda Locatelli, Maze, Le Gavroche and Corrigans are all within spitting distance. A bit further afield and you've got Marcus Wareing, Nahm and all the delights of Belgravia

Went for lunch at Seven Park Place in the St James's Hotel & Club on Saturday. They did a three course set lunch for £29 (we booked through Top Table and for this price also got a glass of wine and coffee) and the food, service and ambience were all excellent. Would highly recommend it and just a stroll down Bond Street from Oxford Street.

Best mix of food and service ive ever had down there was at Mr Chows but thats quite a distance! I would agree on wild honey otherwise. Enjoy!

Thread bump time! Any current recommendations?

We did The Ivy last time we were down there and enjoyed that, also tried Scotts which was good so anything along those lines - good food and service but not too stuffy or formal. We're staying at the Shard and will be seeing a couple of shows so suggestions around the West End or South Bank would be good.

Al Boccon di Vino - Italian, not fancy but fantastic. https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g1...

Berners Tavern - Jason Atherton's restaurant at The Edition

Medlar - French, Chelsea

Gymkhana - Indian, Michelin star

The Ledbury - British. Supposed to be fantastic - I'm booked in for end of this month and can't wait.

Sexy Fish - Asian/Sushi - Richard Caring's latest spot. Quite "bling" if you like that.

Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester - French

Shotgun BBQ is very good, as is The Lockhart - both are under the same ownership, but the surroundings are possibly more impressive at Shotgun. Think upmarket American influenced food, and some very good drinks , then you should get the idea.

The first is near Carnaby St, and the latter near Marble Arch.
