hi there,

my motor, 2006 (55 plate) 138k 2.2 sports diesel has gone down. I've been told its the slave cylinder which i believe is in the gear box (very labour intensive). also been told it'll need a new clutch and fly wheel. is this necessary and should i also need to replace the master cylinder? I've also has two different ideas on the engine ,1 said it was a ford mondeo another said BMW???!!!
any info or feedback would be greatly appreciated

Clutch slave cyl in bell housing so yes, 'box out. Whilst all apart a cluch and dual mass f/wheel worth considering.
Work should be within scope for most indie garages used to working on Mondeos. Parts vary from Ford in many ways but they may still be available from sources other than Jag if you are looking for most cost effective repair.

I have just fitted an engine to a V6 X type. It had full Jaguar service history and the crankshaft failed with a vengeance at only 62,000 miles for no apparent reason.

I have been repairing Jaguars for nigh on 40 years.

This was a singularly dreadful job; so much so that I am going to do a post on here complete with photos to demonstrate the utterly appalling design characteristics of these vehicles.

The gearbox, clutch and dual mass flywheel are Transit or Mondeo. Removing the gearbox is a massive job. On the car I worked on virtually every single nut and bolt was seized solid. The exhaust front pipes were seized onto the cats. The access to just about everything is limited to the point of lunacy.

Jaguar need their collective arses kicked so hard for building these cars.

Jith good to hear from you and welcome to the `new jaguar world`.
Your issue with crank failure on the X is not un-common. I believe oil surge and windage are the problems . Sump baffling is shared with the S which is rear wheel drive, the X has the V6 transversly mounted and therein lies the problem I believe.Owners generally don`t check oil levels as often and just expect the car to never use oil. When low on oil, spirited driving will starve the pickup pipe as the windage tray/ block retains more oil than the rear wheel drive variant.Lower oil film clearance on the bottom end will cause primary failure after just a flash of the oil light.
Advise your clients with lower mileage cars to have a greater awareness of this problem( I`ve changed 3 engines in the last 2 years, mostly 2,5s) and carry out more oil changes and educate them to check their levels . Best also to diconnect the pump relay when doing an oil service , to fill the filter on cranking prior to start up after service. I have heard the problem occur straight after an oil change, so be warned.
