wasn't much better than the SD - and didn't have the commentary options.
Fairly pointless!

I've set this up on sky plus, does this mean I won't get Jake and co?

you'll get the regular feed - so jake & co and Brundle & Legard for the race.

The poster above is referring to the alternative commentary that is accessed via the red button.

It wasn't in HD. It was an upscaled SD broadcast on an HD channel. Basically a slightly better looking image than normal BBC.

Interesting.

I assume it's a bit late in the day for the beeb to cart in hd cameras and the like this late in the season, but I suspect all the pre and post race coverage will be in hd from next year, even if the races aren't.

Are the graphics overlays in hd yet, like in the feeds the cinemas sometimes get?

The race coverage will be from the host broadcaster, so I doubt that brazil TV will have HD set-up yet. I also doubt that the before the race stuff with EJ,DC etc will be in HD either. However, perhaps next year at the British GP, with the BBC providing the pictures it may will be true HD. The graphics will be SD as they are all be part of the host coverage. Not sure if Bernie TV is HD yet ??

I think FOM now provide all feeds from the tracks and have for a few years. Supplemented by some local feeds but all in car, trackside, pit is from FOM.

I'm watching through Sky and it's not DD here. It's still only Dolby Prologic/Stereo.

Sony TV here and I'm only getting in stereo (matrixed into ProLogic II in my amp). I find very few programs have DD sound on the Freeview HD channels.

I read elsewhere that FOM are shooting this season in HD as some sirt of test but they are not offering that feed to any broadcaster... Sounds a bit odd as presumably, they aren't running two complete crews and if the above is true then they are choking the feed in some way and passing through a SD equivalent. I really hope we get HD next year....

If you read the Digital Spy F1 thread it seems that FOM have been using HD cameras for sometime.
The reason we don't get HD is money.
Bernie wants paying (extra) for the HD feed which is fair enough - he pays for the equipment and wants a return on his investment.

O/T - When Sky did the F1 Digital+ thing a mate did a few races as a camera man. FOM looked after the crew very well 4/5* hotels/decent flights/very good pay & expenses etc. Sadly he got offered a deal to work for Sky filming football and likes football - sad man!

Unless you have the optical cable connected from the Sky box to the TV, in addition to your HDMI cable, you'll only get stereo. The SkyHD boxes only pass stereo over HDMI even when Dolby Digital is selected in the setup menu. Or at least that's how it used to work, but I've only got a 1st generation box.
