Well, I bought it! Spent some time deliberating but just went for it and really rather pleased - it's got character that's for sure! Here's a pic for you all, the car is a 1991 H-reg Vogue SE, 3.9 V8 - generally in good condition. Engine is a peach (90k miles), gearbox seems fine, interior is good, bodywork is pretty good - few marks, but then it is 20 years old! Very clean underneath, so generally I'd say its in good nick.

There are a couple of small electrical gremlins which I need to fathom out, so any advice on the following would be great:

- The fuel gauge doesn't work. Apparently it did at the MOT 2 weeks ago, but I put £50 in today and it didn't move, so perhaps a sensor has been knocked or a wire come adrfit, but no idea where to start?
- Speedo is intermittent - most of the time it works fine but if at a constant speed for more than a few minutes, it assumes you know what speed you're doing and then has a rest back at 0mph!! Weirdly if you turn the engine off and then back on it works fine again - very odd.
- Cruise control doesn't work - really don't care about this, unless it's a really easy fix. I understand the common causes are either a vacuum pipe, brake lights not working (they do) or a switch on the brake pedal failing - no idea if this is true or what to check?!

Anyway, that's it! No other problems that I've come across - comments, opinions and advice welcome!

Thanks!

One other thing - I really want to change the coolant asap as its been stood for a while and has picked up loads of sludge from the radiator! Can anyone give me a step by step on how to do this on the 3.9 V8 auto please? Would really appreciate it!

Looks really classy in that colour and I'm fairly sure values of unmodified ones are starting to go up.

That engine is brilliant too.

Looks good. Still want a classic myself.

Google land rover 'rave' manual, download that and it has all the servicing you will ever need to do.

Oh balls! I want a Classic, though the one I saw for £750 would have needed much work doing to it!

It's not perfect, but its certainly the best I could find without paying silly money - £5k+ for a car that old is too much for my liking! But then it's not my only car, so if something needs doing its not urgent.

Will get a few more pics up tomorrow!

Thanks scoobal - will give that a go!

Anyone got solutions to any of the problems outlined above?

That looks lovely, any interior photos?

I'd love a classic but the missus has banned me from having one until we move back into Kent on a permanent basis. She reckons I'd look like a berk tooling around the city!

Hi Nick,

Yeah, no problem:

I would say the RR Classic's are quite fashionable in London now, much more so than a P38 or L322 - everyone has those, but a nice RRC is something different! Economical, though, they are not...

Lol I live in North London and get no end of admiring glances and nods. Seems like I get someone coming and speaking to me about the LSE almost every week!

Regards economy: Last tank 95p/mile ;0 Might have to have another look at those fuel lines...

Yup. There's a few of us in NW3 now.

Plus, I just noticed that the OverFinch one at Graeme Hunt has just been sold and I suspect that will be remaining in London.

They are certainly gaining in popularity as classic cars for tooling around town in.

I live in NW3. On Haverstock Hill pretty much next door to The Sir John Steels, park her down the road of the same name. A nice 90 with MUD on his/her plate shares the road with me. There is a beautiful 3.9 with a GB flag on the boot I've seen parked up locally.

That GH OF took a long time to sell, must have been up for over a year! I imagine the 6.2 (or 6.3 can;t remember) conversion took a deal of that time tho!

I'm just off Frognal. There's a black softdash on Church Row and a couple around Redington.

Seeing as they did the conversion themselves you wouldn't expect them to have done that unless there was a problem with the original engine. A proper ECU on the 5.7 will get you better BHP. I'm not sure it has a heavy duty gearbox so with that torque I suspect they'll only get a few thousand miles per box.

Very nice paint job and tidy interior. I don't think OverFinch did anything to the interior, just engine and brakes and some other bits.

The OH has just bought one of these, a 3.9 in black with very dark brown leather. I think he loves it far more than he loves me. He's obsessed with it!

Is it '5 MUD' per chance?

It was a bloody nice bit of kit that. I, like many others really like the classic RR's - I still think they look classy and classier than a Q7/X5 despite their age now.

O/P - Bonatti grey yours if I'm not mistaken?
