STR Coils & Plugs
Discussion
How easy is it to access and change coils and plugs on a 2002 S Type R?
Symptoms:
The engine mgt light is now ermanently on, restricted performance on and doesn't seem to be firing right at all especially at idle, but seems to run ok once going but is constantly to restricted mode.
Thinking if they are a cheapish/diy job it's as easy to change them and see if it is that, otherwise take it in to be looked at.

Hi,
Plugs rarley fail these days and coils are not that common on the S Type R, if it's missing a bit on idle but clears as soon as throttle opened then I think coils and plugs although a simple job will be a waste of time and money, could be as simple as an air leak even.
Much better idea to have an Indi or such thats familiar with the model code read the car and give it a quick once over.

You need to get the codes read so you can identify if it is a coil pack breaking down?
As far as I am aware the STR engine is pretty much the same as the XKR and the coil packs in those often go.
Never had an issue with the plugs tho a set of those will set you back the best part of £100 and maybe a waste of money

Sick of taking it in to be honest.
Had a full service, and thermostat replaced as was running hot
4 days later broke down due to water leak (pipe that had been removed to for thermostat
Pipe replaced and all fine for 1 day then engine light back on and sometimes restricted performance would come on then go off intermittently
Back in on diagnostics - air flow
New Air Flow sensor fitted and faults cleared
2 days later, engine mgt light is back on but now the restricted performance is permanently on.
Cars done 95k hence wondered if coils were due .. Was a £2k job on 911 so wondering if it's the same or a much easier fit.
