CANON EOS 550D or Nikon D90

Hi guys, any of you keen chaps help me here please, I know bugger all about cameras but out of these two which do you think is the best for someone into taking pictures without getting insane on prices...The choices my friend is interested in is Canon and Nikon, any help greatly appreciated.

They'll each do the same job with similar results. At this level it comes down to personal preference - any shop worth its salt will have both in stock so best bet is to go for a handling session.

I'm ot sure how many people you could find who have owned both, or at least used enough to have an informed opinion. For what it's worth, I own the 550D and find it's a cracking camera for the money, easy to use, and battery life isn't as bad as I've come to expect over the years from cameras of that spec.
