The fronts (Michelin PS2's) on my M3 below. Driven hard out of corners the car understeers a little, and so the outer edges scrub. The wear indicators are ok and even when new there is only very shallow tread on the outer edges of PS2's, so what are thoughts on whether this is an MOT fail ?

Second question, have people had realignment done that reduces this wear ?

Ta.

Look fine to me MOT wise, might be an advisory but must be legal across 75% of the width which they look like they are.
They look to be about 3mm tread left? Given winters on the way it might be advisable to change them soon anyway.

Looks like you need a touch more negative camber on the front if both fronts are wearing on the outsides.

Had my E46 m3 mot'd a couple of weeks back, mines on ps2's and had the same problem.Mine are wearing at a similar rate to yours although on the inside edge aswell.

The tread depth on the outside edges of ps2's is less than the rest of the tyre when they are new so i am just assuming they are wearing evenly, checked pressures too and they were spot on.

The centre of the tyre still had around 4mm left and the mot tester said they were fine aslong as three quarters of the tyre width was legal.

Looking at yours you should have no problem getting them through the mot.

Looks fine!

Sorry to hijack but can I ask how often people get their tracking done? I recently changed from Cups to PS2s and the steering is not as sharp anymore. Should I have done the tracking at the same time?

full geo done twice a year at least - if you use Cups you probably do trackdays so doing the geo regulary will save you loads of ££ in tyre wear

You should never have excessive inner or outer wear, but sometimes it takes a little while to understand how to avoid it

How much is it and where do you have your full geo set up done?

Four wheel laser alignment at Elite Wheels or Merit Tyre. I wouldnt want a Kwik Fit fitter near my car TBH.

Nothing wrong with your tracking, if the Cup was not sharper than PS2 then there would be something wrong.

OP should be fine for MOT, you may get an advisory.

Yes - they passed.

Tester reckons my alignment needs looking at though. Will swap the tyres sooner rather than later then run it by an indie for views on that one.
